FAMILIES FROM LA FORTUNA ARE JOINING THEIR STRENGTHS TO DEVELOP RURAL TOURISM, Six families from La Fortuna in San Carlos, a city in the north of Costa Rica, are trying to develop rural tourism in that region. This type of tourism represents an alternative to add value to the agricultural industry in the area as well as an opportunity for the families to reach their goals.
In the last few years, approximately eighty families of farmers from the northern area have joined this alternative, created in 2002 thanks to the support of the non-governmental association, ACEPESA as well as Fundecooperación. Mr. Carlos Alberto Espinoza and his family are a real life example. Indeed, thanks to this business initiative, they could build four tourist cabins, a restaurant, and a pond to breed tilapia in only three years. As for tourists, rural community tourism is a new and interesting option. |
