The Pacific coast of the country is experiencing an explosive construction of marine projects. Currently, there are 21 projects at different stages, whether to be approved, soon to be constructed, or already under construction.
“Costa Rica is a strategic point, located in the middle of the Americas, very close to the United States, and with a beautiful Pacific coast,” stated the Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides. In April, the mega project Escondida Bay will be initiated, promising to change Golfito’s economy, located in the extreme southern part of Costa Rica. Productive activities in Golfito are based on African palm plantations and the incomes generated by the duty free zone. This project consists of a marina, luxury villas and a commercial area, with a direct increase of nearly 1500 jobs and about 3500 indirectly. Several owners of yachts and sport fishing amateurs who live in the United States have already been attracted by the initiative. In fact, Escondida Bay was promoted at the San Diego Boat Show, one of the most important fairs in the United States that promotes the most exotic destinations for sport fishing. During this event, the project managed to generate $7 million dollars from the sale of residential units that make up the complex. One of the reasons why the investors like Golfito is that this area offers facilities for the arrival of yachts since there are no crashing waves and, moreover, it is the closest port to the Panama Canal. The weather conditions and the natural beauty of the city located inside of a wild life refuge are additional assets for this area. |
